Bernadette's dance group?

Were you in Bernadette's dance group in the '60s and '70s?
It was called Aušrininkai but much later was renamed Aušra.
I remember Kris Likpevičius was in it until her family moved to Australia.

I remember going along to the club on Sunday afternoons with Petras Gugas from Rochdale some time in the late 60's , and trying out the latest dance moves in the tiny concert room. I was distracted by the other teenage delights on offer and never carried out the threat of a full on display.
A question though..... who was the silta senas?, there was always a kiddies concert at Christmas time, and there was always a present giving by the satin clad  santa.
Also, remembering basketball games on the grass pitch!!  now a car park I see.

You may have been there with Ziggy Zebelys. Later, Petras's brother John Gugas was in the dace group, too.

The Christmas Show "Eglute" featured Kaledu Senelis and kids had to sing a song or recite a poem before presents were handed out. Remember the peanuts, sweets and orange in a bag for each kid? The show was controlled by Domas Dainauskas, the teacher.  Somewhere in the archives there is a sound recording of his explanations and pronouncements editted into just Lith and into only English (well, almost: Christmas Father etc). Later, the Scouts ran the show and brought it up to date.

The basketball was organised by Aleknavicius, also from Rochdale.

Crikey! You have  memory, I  remember Moktyojas Dainauskas,
I went to Italy to the Salesian Institute near Turin for a year with Ziggy Zebelys he had a blonde teddy boy quiff back in the day quite striking. I was scarred for life by the trip to Italy, not Ziggys fault I was too young to be away from home.  My parents lived with the Gugas family when they first settled, and Babara Gugiene (recently deceased ) lived round the corner from my mother for her last 35 years. So I knew the family well
The memories of the Christmas show are still strong unlike English Santa's ours wore a maroon satin suit I remember.
My response to this posting is immediate as I am Aleknavicius from Rochdale, now Bristol/Bath resident , mokytojas and the Basketball is a theme that runs through most of mine  and most Lithuanians life.
Iki

You confirmed what I found out from Jonas Navickas of Rochdale. Your dad must have been Stasys, basketball player in the Kovas team.

Algis Motuza turned up recently, his dad is still living in Rochdale but he's not aware of you.

Father was indeed Stasys Aleknavicius, and before his leg accident was a very active -player  I still have his Kovas warm up jacket.  I knew Algis Motuza but our paths crossed very rarely. His father-an intellectual  knew my father well.
Your messages are great for stirring up a past that I almost forgot.
My  how things have changed  now  we can be drinking Svyturys in Weatherspoons, and buying  Lithuanian bread down the supermarket.
