Velykos | Easter

The decorated eggs are called "Margučiai". The work is done by hand using various methods. A basic technique is to boil white eggs with onion skins to obtain a brown colour, then to scratch out the pattern. Another method uses a wax coating with a scratched pattern, repeated a number of times using a dye in the water. Yet another is to paint the eggs with a pattern. The eggs are always hard-boiled and later their strength is tested as opponents bang their decorated eggs against each other's to see which one breaks first. Another game is to roll eggs down a ramp to see which one rolls furthest.
